As summer abruptly came to end and I was soaking in the last few days of my final summer vacation, my dad encouraged me to simply enjoy my final semester of college because I really didn’t “need any more internships”. As I sit here as the new Communications Intern for Gaslight Creative, I’m happy with my decision to not listen to him. 😉
I have been attending St. Cloud State for the last four years studying mass communications, marketing and communication studies. I have dabbled in just about everything PR and marketing related through on-campus internships and jobs within the community. I have spent some time in non-profit, sports marketing, and event management, all unpaid or for a small stipend. I have been told from time to time I am crazy for taking on all of these responsibilities for virtually free, and although I sometimes have questioned my own sanity, I thrive off it.
I have also been asked how I manage a social life amongst being a full-time student with (usually) two jobs and an internship, and it’s actually quite easy. First thing, and most importantly, I love what I do, so I don’t see it as work. Second, over-cramming for tests and late night sessions at the library are a given with my hectic schedule, but I do what I have to do to make all my priorities balance out. Oh, and because I think a degree would be good thing to put on my resume, too. 😉
In my free time, I love sampling craft beers and catching up on some of my favorite Netflix shows. It’s the perfect wind-down after a busy day. I caught the travel bug after I spent last summer in England and Europe, and I have been planning my next adventure since my return. I am also what they call a ‘future cat lady’ and part of my day is usually spent looking at cat gifs or torturing myself on the Humane Society’s website.
I am very excited to be apart of the Gaslight team. They have a hard working, fun atmosphere that is accompanied by an extremely talented and passionate group of people. I’ve had my eyes set on working in an agency for the last few years, and Gaslight is the perfect place to get my feet wet. I can’t wait to expand and improve my skills to prepare me even more for my first job after graduation.
