How Social Media Helps To Grow Your Brand

I am what you would call a Millennial, reaching young adulthood in the early 2000s, surrounded and completely consumed by technology and social media. That’s a good thing, right? I think so. Social media helps to build an overall brand, image and audience of a company – oh, and to share cat photos (or is that just me?)

The days of word-of-mouth marketing have evolved to a much bigger scale: social media. Information is being shared and read every second of the day, and the challenge is weeding through the mess and jumping on someone’s radar.

With over 600 million active users on Twitter and over 800 million monthly active users on Facebook, it can seem a little frightening to launch your next social media campaign. Two of the most important things to remember: know your audience, and be engaging. Consistency is a key aspect in growing your social media presence. Whether you are a Fortune 500, a mom-and-pop shop, or (the best of the best) Gaslight Creative, your company has the potential to build a brand, get fans, and stay engaged on social media platforms.

One of our goals for 2014 was to create a better presence on social media, and within three weeks of our newly implemented social media strategy, we have engaged more followers, received more traffic to our social media sites, and had a ton of fun doing it. I think having fun is something very important to keep in mind when you are using social media for business. 99% of the time users will already be aware of the fact you are a company of some sort, so communication should be friendly and engaging; not business-y.

Relaying messages that pertain to your company or brand is the clear objective in social media marketing, but it’s important to keep an open mind and have some fun. Grab the attention of your desired audience by being interesting and entertaining. And as much as you’d like to, you aren’t going to please everyone. Stay active in responding to good and bad comments and keep in mind that listening is going to be your most important tactic in utilizing social media for your business.

Share good content, inspire your fans to be engaged, and provide value behind your posting. Let your company’s personality shine through on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram – whichever platform you’re posting from!
